Hebrews 13:3 “Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners...”

We are soon to be in our fifteenth year and will continue as long as God allows!

Hosanna Prison Ministry goes to Mabel Bassett Correctional Center for Women every Monday teaching various Bible studies.

200    plus women involved in our weekly Bible studies

250    plus women responded to through our prayer letter ministry

8-10   Women were helped with books to complete college level courses

1150     Scripture Calendars were distributed for year 2012

185      Approximate number of participants in the “Mommy and Me” book program.  “Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me.”     Matt 18:5

The ministry has five full time volunteers and one part-time volunteer that serve at the Mabel Bassett Correctional Facility.  There are three additional full time volunteers that serve off site responding to and answering prayer requests from the inmates.  These volunteers are from seven different Southern Baptist churches.  The facility is located in McCloud, Oklahoma and has all levels of offenders incarcerated.  The Mommy and Me ministry serves over 1,000 children and reaches all over the United States and even into other countries.  This ministry allows an incarcerated mother or grandmother to record their self reading a book then they can mail the book and CD to their child or grandchild.  This ministry is fairly expensive with postage and supplies but is also very important in the lives of these children that benefit.  They are always in need of new or gently used board books as many of the children are very young.  Another ongoing ministry includes Angel Tree each year at Christmas which provides gifts to children who have one or both parents in prison.  Oklahoma still has twice the National average of women incarcerated compared to all other states, or the world, and has held that record for over 10 years.  For over two years, we have NOT had a chaplain to help volunteers or the women at Mabel Bassett.

New Chapel Project:

Plans are drawn and in the funding process for a 5000 square foot 200 seat chapel to be constructed inside Mabel Bassett Center.  The projected cost is $500,000 but can be greatly reduced using volunteer labor and donated goods.  This facility is a great need as the small room, currently used for the weekly Bible studies, is overcrowded and they are turning people away each week.  The new chapel would also be equipped with Baptistery with changing rooms and educational rooms for smaller group teaching.  It would also have office space to house a full time chaplain.  If your church, or members of the church, would like to donate funds or goods to this project, please contact the UBA office for information.

OUR BIGGEST NEED:  People who would make praying for us a priority!!!  Not only while we are inside the prison, but during travel to and from prison.  We KNOW we are going into an area of deep spiritual darkness.  We also KNOW we are bringing the Truth of Jesus Christ to lost women.  So, of course, the enemy throws every “road block” in our path to try and stop us.  If you feel led to pray for us by name, please contact the UBA office for a list.
